The Variety Store Building and Theater is one of the few remaining multi-use buildings containing
a theater located in Cleveland. There are a series of storefronts on the first floor as well
as 12 apartments on the second floor. Designed by Nicola Petti, the Variety Theatre was constructed
in 1927 and has been home to vaudeville acts, concerts, and movies. It was placed on the
National Register of Historic Places in 1982. There are 1550 seats on the first floor and
350 on the balcony. It has been over 20 years since the Variety Theatre was used as a theatre,
but plans are underway to restore the building and bring movies and live entertainment back
to the neighborhood.
